Carter AFB question
OK, I just picked up a 1966 Dodge Dart wagon (will post pictures in a bit)
The car has a Carter AFB 8822. I do not see how to hook up a choke on the carb. If anyone know how this works, or better has a picture, please let me know. Thanks!http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...88166043_n.jpg |
I would say you got you an aftermarket intake and there is no choke cup for the mechanical choke.

It is aftermarket.. I would guess you will need a manual choke. Or get the parts for an electric choke - hooks up to the lever by the black cap.

Appears to be missing some of the choke linkage, maybe take parts off an extra carb. Or a salvage one.

I cannot tell for certain, but looking at the black tag, it appears to be an older Carter aftermarket AFB, they used to call their "competition series" before being bought out by Edelbrock. Those should be either manual choke, or have the black round thermostat like some of the older Ford/ Holleys used
Here's one with a manual choke, and the bracket to the rear is where the choke cable jacket clamps. That is, the clamp directly below the fuel inlet. OK, it turns out I can get an electric choke kit. However I am missing part of the linkage on the other side.

That is your fast idle cam. I don't know if you can actually even get parts for them. Might be more trouble than it's worth, IE find another used carb, etc, or buy new and sell that one.
I ran my dart up here in N Idaho all through last winter on nice days, and started it OK sometimes down into the 20's F. I never used the choke at all, it's wired open |
My engine doesn't need a choke to start it either. Just 3 to 4 pumps, and she roars to life! Its a little flat for a few minutes, but then can drive it. Most perf carbs are prob on the rich side to begin with anyway.
