Chrysler 400 engine Questions
 

I'm looking into swapping a chrysler 400 into my 1984 Dodge D100 (right now it's a 225 slant-6). The engine I'm looking at buying is out of a 1976 Dodge motorhome. It comes complete with the 727 tranny. I was wondering if Dodge did anything different to the engine when it was in the motorhomes as opposed to their cars, such as the cordoba? I just want to know if i'm getting an engine that's not going to be the same as what they normally put in their regular cars. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has any tips on swapping a 400 into a dodge d100, that would be great too.

I think this is in a small motorhome "with the van nose?" If so most of the engine is pretty much the same, possibly lower compression pistons. The ones to watch out for are in the huge "land whales," the 413/ 440s, the heavy truck engines used in these use different heads, I think timing cover, and certainly the water pump, which fits up to ports in the special heads

Another thing to look out for is the "wierd" tailshaft torqueflite with the drum type emergency brake, again I believe found only in the heavier motorhomes.

Yes, blocks are still the same, I'm not sure, I think the intake is also.

So the 400 then should be fairly similar to the 400's they put in cars then? Is there a way I can tell, like the number plate on the engine?
