CLEANING out a fuel tank...

Whats the best way/approach to cleaning out a fuel tank of a 72 charger? Is it possible to to dump some chemicals in there and let it run or will I have to take apart the tank and clean it that way?

Check with Eastwood
They have some cleaning agent and sealant.

In a larger city, check some of the rad places. They also do that. Might not help, but give it a try

CLR and pitrun I was told but I didnt like the idea of pitrun. I used about 2 galloons of CLR and 4 pcs of 2 foot small chain and swished it around i let it sit over night on one side then swished for hours here and there and let sit. I did this over 4 days and my tank was horrid when i droped it out, it is now nice and works great with no problems. Easy cheap and it works.

Use to do the same. CLR or something similar and old light weight stainless chain.Throw it in and place tank in the parts hauler. Drive for couple days and let it swish around.

I also like Eastwoods product too..

Good luck!

I took the fuel tank for my 67 sport fury to a local radiator shop and they boiled it out and lined it. also patched a few pin holes they found. cost about half the price of a new tank. so you might try that option

The inner bladder of the tanks can be easily detached, allowing you to clean and examine the center walls of the tank, and to be rest certain you are only drinking the cleanest consumption water possible. Additionally, the inner bladder of the tanks are a bit extra-large, so the pressure will not be exert on the interior, but rather on the sides of the tank, eliminate the possibility of rupturing or tearing the tanks.
