Distributor oil seal

Can anyone tell me if there is a seal or a O ring on the shaft of the distributor I have a 340 with electric ign. and I am getting oil coming out of it. All so I am looking for a set of spark wires that will fit the car all 8 cyl.

Yes, O,ring the groove is .110" wide and 1.820" diameter. Don't know a part number but with the dimensions you could source one before removal.

Weren't the early distributors sealed with a large fiber washer? I've never seen one personally but I swear I read this somewhere.

earlier distributors were sealed with a metal ridged washer not fiber. The later models have an oring. If your getting oil up the middle of the shaft however it means the distributor bushings are worn out.

Between the dist housing and the roll pin there should be a metal washer IF not there ??? could be splashing too much oil on the dist shaft I don't remember seeing an actual seal other than the outer seal for the block
