Edelbrock Nightmare?

OK. Here's the problem. I have an Edelbrock Performer carb, 750 electric choke on my 73 Duster (kid's car really....but I'm the banker..lol). Had an issue with it a year ago. Got dirty, so I replaced fuel tank, the lines are new as well. The carb got pulled apart and cleaned twice as well as new parts internally. Ran fine for a short while, then started back to its old self of not idling properly and crapping out. Actually started leaking out the side. Pulled apart again, cleaned, floats reset. Ran fine, warmed up nicely and idled just right. Kid took it our for a spin and problems started again. No stalling this time, but when he brought it back we let it run...seemed okay, but when we revved it up, there seemed to be a stumbling, not sure if that's the right word to describe it or not. Now, before I try a new carb, I was wondering if there might be some other issue. My fuel pump is the regular Chrysler mechanical pump. Should I use an Edelbrock? Should I stick with the Chrysler and just install a fuel regulator? Or am I missing something here. I for the life of me can't figure out why so many issues with this carb. It ran great for the first couple of years.
