I have been looking at these two carburetors for my stock 4 barrel intake. 1968 Chrysler Newport 383, here is the intake i have, and i bought the adapter for it already just trying to decide the carburetor. Doing a mild street cam lifters and springs with double roller timing chain.

Go with the 650 600 is too small for the 383. Or even a 700 with a cam and such

Thanks

How about a Edelbrock 9907 750 CFM, this is the cam kit I am buying maybe this will help. http://www.jegs.com/i/COMP+Cams/249/K21-223-4/10002/-1

if you use an Edlebrock square bore carb on that maniflod with just a gasket you will have a air leek. and will not run right. you need a steel plate made by Edlebrock with a specl gasket between the plate and manifold. with regular gasket between the plate and carb. Edlebrock can give you better info on this. this IS good setup that Edlebrock has.

If you mean the adapter plate I bought one it comes with two gaskets, one for the top and bottom of the plate

what you have is an adapter. what you need is a 2696 a plate. but check with Edlebrock. i think. the adapter you have will cause air flow trouble. just be sure every surface is sealed. i think the one i listed has a specl gasket that goes on the manifold first. then the plate. then a regular gasket. just check that all surfaces are sealed. what causes this is that the square bore carb has open places on the bottom of the carb that line up to the wall on the side of the manifold. causing air leeks.

The one I bought is the 2696, here is the link http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/2696/10002/-1

it is a thick plate and comes with the two gaskets one for the manifold and one for the top of the plate between the carb and plate. The picture is showing the other side of the plate that goes towards the carb.

if that is the number you got i must have listed the wrong number. ill recheck the number i think you need.

i think Edlebrock has there part numbers messed up. the one you need might be 2732? it is just a thin plate with a specl gasket. that thick adapter might work. i have used the thin plate it does work. but it needs the specl gasket on the bottom.

I'm a fan of the Edelbrock carburetors...
I recently read an article in Mopar Muscle Magazine about the right carb for a 383... And it seems like I remember the article stating that the 650 cfm carb made almost as much power as the larger ones and the overall numbers were more consistent with the smaller carb. The actual gains with the larger cfm carbs were way up at the top end of the RPM scale, and for driveability the smaller carb came out the winner. I was surprised, and I think that this is why I remembered.
I'll see if I can find the article to make sure that I have my facts straight.... lol
