GM HEI conversion

GM HEI conversion
Alright after some extensive research i have decided to toss the spark control on my dippy and go with a gm hei conversion. it seems pretty simple and straight forward. now my question doesnt regard the swap it involves the carb situation. I have a motorcraft 2150 carb on my truck i know my diplomat has a holley on her. my question is will the motor craft carb bot up to my stock intake or will i need another one? the reason im putting a motorcraft on is because my truck is a 302 sbf bored .30 over and it has a stock roller cam and the carb is too small when i hit about 45 it looses all power so im getting a race carb from my grandfather in law. hes building it from scratch no choke or nothin just basically a circle track carb. but anyway baclk to the point im just wondering if the motorcraft carb will bolt up to the intake on my 318

I don't know what Ferd's done "lately" but Motorcraft and Holley AFTERMARKET two barrels, (IE the Holley 500 cfm style) shared the same big bolt pattern, same width as a Holley 4bbl.
Holley / Carter/ other 2bbls on Mopar 360's are NOT the same but are larger than 318/ 273
273/ 318's typically had the smallest Carter / Holley bolt pattern.
The answer is, you need an adapter.
I would not do this. I'd look for a native fit carb for your 318, should not be all that difficult to find. I just got done test firing about a 72-4 318, and used the 2bbl off my 67 273. Bolted right on. The point is, those little 2bbls have been used for YEARS.
What's wrong with what's on there? Clean it and kit it and run it??

sorry its been a while i just got a chance to hit up a local junkyard today looking for a pre 76 dizzy but no luck. would i be able to use the leanburn dizzy and the leanburn carb with a gm hei setup or not?

No you need to get rid of the lean burn dist. It has no mechanical advance, and may not have a vacuum advance (I'm not intimately familiar with all the variations of lean burn)
Don't worry about the year too much. ANY breakerless Mopar distributor which fits a 318/ 340/ 360 will fit your engine, but of course must have mechanical and vacuum advance. You can easily tell by "springing" the rotor towards CW. The rotor should move some, and the mechanical springs will "spring" the rotor back again.
Generally speaking, for advance curve reasons, the earlier the dist. the better.

The reason i asked is because the distributor im running in my f150 has no vaccuum advance and its a stock motor and it runs fine. i have a vac. advance in her before and it ran horrible dont know why. but then again im not to familiar with dodge so i dont know if they need the advance or not. The dizzy on my diplomat now has no advance on it at all its all controlled by the compter on the air cleaner housing. unless there is sp[rings inside i havent checked yet

jordanz, you need a pre '76 electronic dist. it will have the vacuum advance can. yes you need the vacuum advance dist to do the lean burn delete. do a search on "lean burn delete" and there should be a thread that it pulls up.
