Looking to expand my knowledge
Can some of you guys tell me about running open headers? Ive heard about burning valves and such, but what is that exactly? And how do drag cars run open headers without this problem, or if they will eventuly have this problem? I just want to know the how and why. Thanks in advance

I raced with open headers. Basically, got to the track and dropped the pipes.
Besides the valve thing, which I never experienced, there maybe a flame front to worry about.
Most people aren't crazy about an open flame under their feet.
One trick was to look for discoloration from the flame front on the pipes and make a "short pipe" just passed the demark. It should also help scavenging to some degree. I ran the car with and without the shorts and didn't notice a lot of difference.
