Mopar 440 info

Hi all

I have been researching 440 engines but cant find the answer and wondered if there were any one here that may be able to help.

I am looking to buy a 440 engine that is being advertised. The engine number is 4006630-440-2. What do these number mean?

I cant find out what exactly this means. what does the 2 on the end mean? I seem to have found a website that suggests it is a 1977 engine, is that correct?

If it is a late 1970's engine are they any good. Are they as sort after as the 1970 model engines and are the blocks weaker in the late 1970's? IF it is 1977 engine is it less valuable than a 1970 engine?

Thanks

Can't decode the numbers, but mid/late 70's 440's were probably the strongest blocks made. Unfortunately the rest of the components, not so much. If the block is sound, and you're planning a rebuild, (crank, pisto9ns, cam etc, you should be fine. If you plan on using it as is, it will have low end torque, but not much else.

If the engine was previously rebuilt, get details on what was done to it.

The 70s blocks are as good as you can find as are the rods but the crank is cast iron and only good for a mild build. If you have the heads , last three numbers 452, they are the best iron heads for cams to .550 lift.
A word of caution about buy an overhaul kit with pistons, the pistons in the kits are the low compression ( 8 to 1 ) variety no matter what you order. So high performance pistons are required, usually 100 to150 grams lghter than stock.
at this pinot the stroker kit becomes attractive, New forged crank, better rods and forged pistons with a descent compression ratio. Oh and more CID!
