MSD Atomic EFI 2900 on 440

I am considering ordering an EFI kit for the 440. Is anyone running an MSD Atomic? My next question is this worth the money? I could get another carburator for around 500 and this is 2200. Some friends are really advocating for the EFI, since it is self tunning and easier to maintain. Any suggestions or advice?

It would be great to have one. Check out the Holley and Edelbrock offerings as well.

I haven't tried it... I'd love to see one though...

I wont thread jack this into a FI vs. Carb... They both have some pros and cons..

I can say Ive done conversions both ways. Carb to FI and FI to carb depending on the application... Chevy, Ford and Mopar...

That is a big outlay but you can keep it forever and swap it without issue. I have a 600 dollar injected M1 intake on my mule and that is silly money for an intake.. but I don't regret that purchase at all.

I would make sure it is using easily replaceable parts.. Factory style injectors, sensors etc.. Some aftermarket companies will take out of production sensors from cars no longer being produced and use those parts to make sure their clients can get parts from a local vendor for repair. If they are doing that then it would help me make that decision a little easier.

Here is something else to consider:

With FI the intake flows dry. So intake runner length is important but its not needed to flow both fuel and air. Just air. So you can use a single plane intake in a heavy daily driver and tune the system to keep the bottom end (most of it anyway) by the timing and push of fuel into the chamber. And get the benefits of a single plane in the upper rpms.

Win Win...

I looked at four different offerings tonight.

The Fast Kit from Comp Cams uses your own 4150 intake and the master kit that includes the electric fuel pump will run you $2,179.00

The MSD Atomic Kit is comparable to the Fast Kit and it costs $2,290.00 for the master kit. It can tie into a MSD 6A box and adjust the timing.

The Holley Avenger EFI with a 900 CFM throttle body is $2,054.00 for the master kit.

Then way out there is Edelbrocks Pro-Flo sets contain a 1000 cfm throttle body, a intake manifold and with fuel rails and injectors runs you $3159.00.

I'm kinda leaning toward the MSD right now. Just trying to figure out if I was to put that much into it right now.

This is something I have been looking into for a long time for my Chevy, now MSD has come out with thier version, I like the returnless fuel line. Holly newer version has a returnless line also from waht I am told. Another to look at would be Powerjection it is laptop capable if that is something you want to control. Of the ones out I am liking the MSD and looking at that for my Challenger this time around. IMHO. Kepp us posted ot what you do and I am looking forward to reviews- Good Luck
