Which oil to use
So the service manual for my Plymouth P12 special deluxe tells me I should use SAE 30 motor oil in the engine. I assume this should be a non-detergent oil. But is there anything wrong with using an SAE 10W-30 oil in this engine?

No, but your engine will be happier if you are able to find an oil with zddp (zinc, baisicly), like diesel engine oil. It's a flat tappet issue.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had read that somewhere in a general discussion concerning gas and oil for these engines. In addition, may I ask what type of anti-freeze is appropriate?

Mr.4sped is very right. i use valvoline premium blue diesel 15w-40. i has lots of zinc and is the factory fill for the Cummings dodge diesel. all so good is red line engine oil break-in additive. all so good is ZPPD plus, all so has lots of zinc. and DO keep the oil changed. remember you make all most as water as you burn gasoline.

This is what I would use.....

Try Joe Gibbs engine oil. He offers a couple of different products. His break-in oil is about as good as it gets when it comes to high zinc and phosphorus content. After that, he offers a similar quality oil, but with less z&p. No need to add any extras. Worth a try. Check out his website: Joegibbsracingoil.com

Thanks to you all. I got my oil the other day and will be doing a change sometime this week. Since this car does not (and apparently never did) have an oil filter, I know that it is important to keep the oil changed. Thanks again for all the input.
