Slant6 to 318 engine swap dodge dart

I'm new to the forum, I've always read but never joined so thought I finally would. It's always been very helpful . I've got a 67 Gtx and 67 belvedere, and recently got a 74 dart swinger. It's got a 6 cylinder and wasn't sure if it's as simple as motor mount swap kit to put in a v8 . Just looking to go with a small block maybe a 318 that I have. Thanx for the help

Unfortunately, no
It's not as easy as a motor mount swap.

There are basically *3 Different K frames mopar used;

the 6cyl,

the 8cyl
(small block and big block are the same K frame just different motor mounts)

and the
*Hemi K frame
(usually has a skid plate to ID them, (but that's not a "tried and true" ID method as mopar used those skid plates haphazardly and I've heard reports of some other big blocks getting them)) * but I've also HEARD the hemi K's are the same as the 8cyl K's, but I'll let someone confirm/disprove it. Either way, its irrelevant to your question lol sorry to blabber on.

Going from a 6cyl to an 8 cyl requires a K frame swap, but the v8 K's are pretty cheap and easy to get ahold of so don't let a K swap deter you.

BTW, back in the early 2000's I owned a 67 GTX that I used as a daily driver, man, I loved that car! It never let me down, drove it to work and college and parties and bars lol.
Still miss it, I'm still searching for it though....

It IS not mandatory to change the K You can get Shumacker engine mounts

Well,
there you go , good looking out Lynn,
I didn't know Schmacker had motor mounts to put a v8, in a v6 K frame...(?)
Although,
I'd price it out,
I'm not sure what the cost difference is (?) I've heard the Schumacker stuff can be pricey(?)

If you can get a K cheap enough, or a parts store, fine. For some folks, the "Shoe" mounts are a good alternative.

You obviously need exhaust work

The radiator might be big enough for a 318 or mild 340, but you'll have to use a "flex" top hose as the slant upper hose is on the wrong side

You'll either need a different automatic (slant won't fit) or change the bell, flywheel and clutch for a stick.

Other issues are properly balanced torque converter or aftermarket flex plate depending on engine, and bell housing hole size for whatever stick trans you have. If the V8 was an auto there may or may not be pilot bearing seat issues, either or both.......not drilled deep enough, or not finish bored to proper ID

Tell us more about the intended combination.................

Cool thanx for the info. I actually have the trans still with the motor so I'll be using it and from what I've seen I'll need to shorten the shaft? Which is something I thought I'd never say lol! I still don't know if I want to keep the car or not. It's all original and great shape but just not my favorite body style. Might try to sell it and keep lookin. Thanx zombie I love the gtx I'll have to post some pics I just got the 440 back in her a month ago

Yeah the 74 dart is not the most appealing body style to some people, me included. I've always liked the 67-69's and the 70-72's, personally.
But they can be made to look pretty good (the powerblock made their 74 (?) duster look good lol).
Plus, if you've already got the 318/trans, it'd be a good swap and it should increase its value to boot. As far as the prop shaft goes, they made a ton of v8 duster, dart, valiants so getting a driveshaft that bolts right in should be pretty easy, in fact I've even got one, but it's for a v8/904.
Definitely post pics of your 67 'X?
