Throttle cable pedal bracket help
 

Replacing the throttle cable bracket inside the vehicle (1969 Charger) and putting in a new throttle cable as well. After several hours getting the bracket all tight, the cable end won't fit in the grommet like it should. My thought is to take the bracket out and fit the cable and then bolt all back in. Not looking forward to that at all. Is there any other way or something I am missing? Any help, tips etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Ok...here's what I found.. I took the pedal bracket out again. Ugh.
- Took the grommet out of the bracket placed it over the clip (carb) end of the throttle cable.
- Placed that through the bracket hole and placed the grommet back in the bracket.
- Then took the throttle cable and pushed through firewall to carb.
- Fit the bracket back to the firewall and tightened up again.
- Hooked the cable to bracket then hooked to carb same way it came off.
- I think that would be the way to do it?
- unfortunately the cable isn't tight the gas pedal is close to floor with quite a bit of play. Don't get it! The previous fix which I took out had a wire clamp inside the vehicle used to shorten (tighten) the cable. See attached for a good laugh. :yikes:

Slide the cable back toward the firewall where it mounts to the engine if you can.. That is why most of us use Lokar universal cables on our muscle cars they are cut to fit and come with all the ends. You can get them through Sumitt Or Jegs...Bill

Your adjustment problem is not inside the car but on the engine side.. That cable clamp was never used on a Mopar

Thanks! It has been many years since my old chargers. I don't recall ever seeing those type of clamps either!

I appreciate the help. I will revisit the carb side of things and look for a Lokar cable tonight...

you ended up with the wrong cable.

I was thinking it was the wrong cable. However, it was shorter than the old one with the clamp and had the correct ends to fit right in. So, I thought I was in business! I did push the cable back toward the firewall as pro-tech suggested. Still too long lots of slack on gas pedal side with really no way to tighten up that I can see. I looked at Jegs and Lokar cables. They do not have the correct ends to fit. Do they come with them? Might I need to change the linkage on the Holley? I attached a pic of the current setup and please don't mind the blue stuff at the bottom, it wasn't my doing! Probably same guy who installed the wire clamp! Thanks!!

You have lots of room to adjust the cable. On the metal end, where it mounts, loosen the nut on the bracket and pull the outer cable back towards the firewall to take up the slack.. There is a lip on the metal part so need to loosen it quite a bit to get it in the proper position !

:hello:Well after a couple of days thinking and researching to make sure I had the throttle cable in correctly, I decided to take the whole thing out and start over last night. Got the cable out, the pedal bracket back out (3rd time) and all put back together correctly. I think. I did slide the throttle cable back to the firewall as TVLynn suggested and it has seemed to take the space up as TVLynn said it would!! Very greatful! Waiting for the thunderstorms to stop so I can take the car it and test it all and see if I got it. Thanks for the help!!

I will say this....if anyone needs a hand pulling the pedal bracket out of a 1969 charger, let me know. I have it down to about 10 minutes! :)

Success!! Throttle cable, pedal bracket all work great together. Probably now needs a little carb adjustment.(don't think it was great to begin with)
Did just order a double Lokar return spring set for it..
