'72 Polara Transmission Issues?
Hi,
When starting the car in the morning and driving it to work, the transmission does not want to shift gears, resulting in really high RPM from the engine.
I have to drive like that for a few blocks, and then this issue stops.
However, if I decide to floor the car after a full stop, or give it enough gas, I hear a nasty grinding. Other then that, it switches smoothly.
Lastly, when putting the car in reverse and pushing on the gas sometimes feels like I do not have enough power and the car is struggling to back up. It doesn't grinds as loud though.
Any ideas on what could be wrong?

It sounds like your transmission needs a rebuild or a replacement. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!
If you remove the transmission pan and it's full of crap and shavings... it's probably done. If not, you may be able to replace the filter, fill it with new fluid and get some more miles out of it.
Remember though, if the transmission is full of crap, so is the torque converter. Do not use this converter on a new/good transmission!

All right then, that's out of my league :P I'll drop it off at the tranny shop.
Thank you for the torque converter swap tip, I will let them know and ask to put a new one. Man, I cannot wait to take her on a summer road trip.
