78 D150 posi-track rear end? stock?

Heya guys, Me and the son were dialing in the timing on the 78 late yesterday, and when the son took off, he left two nice pretty black marks behind him!! And I was wandering if anyone knew if these trucks came stock from the factory with posi-track rear ends?? Because this one sure has got one!! no limited slip differential on this one! I was just curious if anyone knew if this was stock protocol on these trucks back in the day off the floor ???

I know that you could get a 3/4 ton with one as an option (Dana 60 with a trac loc/limited slip/sure grip/posi - all the same thing).

Could it have one? Yeah but if it does, I'd be someone swapped it in. At the same time though, it could be open and both tires just happen to have lost traction and spun, I've done that before on my J10 when I had it.

Yea, I'm defiantly leaning toward someone messing around with it in the past..Its been a long time, but I remember my Dad used to weld something together on the gears or something to make em posi. (he did that on a old 72 camaro he had back in the day?) thank you sir..

He would have welded the spider gears and side gears together and possibly to the carrier. This would make the rear axle act as though it had a spool in it.

The sure grip was an option. If it was welded you would know it the first time you turned a corner

Well, this trk does not chirp tires turning corners...that makes total sense to me now...so this trk is probably LSD then.... also makes sense why my Dad only ran that old 72 camaro down the track in a straight line...lol...Thanks TVLynn
