87 dakota 4 speed

i am building a 318 for my 1987 dakota. i am hoping to push up to 450 hp but want to put a 4 speed manual tranny in it. i am having trouble finding anything that could fit. and no speed shop i go to seems to want to help me really. so what i am looking for is if anyone knows of somthing that would work or has a part number to anything that would be great.

An A833 4 speed would work , I would think about a 5 speed from a later Dak

I was thinking about a 4 to be a little diffrent and plan on later on doing some drag racing. Do you think if i got that one would the location of the shifter be an issue?

I don't know I would look for a B body 4 speed as it has a longer tail shaft and the shifter is mounted further back

NP435A from a dodge pickup would work. You can find some 4spd, 2wd trucks out there still. Make sure its the "A" (4.56:1 1st gear) and not the "L" (6.68:1 1st gear).
