904 late upshift/early downshift

My 69 cuda (new to me) is upshifting late(+- 40mph) at partial throttle and downshifting early (+- 30mph coasting). Fluid level is normal full. I have the maint. manual so the adjustment procedure is available but I thought maybe one of you experts could shortcut me to the right adjustment point.

Thanks
Bud

Start by adjusting the throttle pressure at the carb !!!!
All bets off if the carb is not stock

Carb is an edelbrock 1406 on a stock 340 manifold.

Thanks
Bud

fixed

Found I was missing the retention spring for the trans throttle lever. Replaced missing spring, problem solved.

Thanks
Bud

I don't want to "kick a dead horse" on this thread, but did you replace it with an OEM retention spring, or a universal spring that just happened to work? I have the same issue right now on my 904, (well, similar issue, my car doesn't run at the moment but I am missing that same spring.)

The reason I ask is, I couldn't locate an OEM spring, I used a universal that kind of worked. I'm not a big fan of cobbing things together, so I'd like to get my hands on an OEM spring.

If you did use an OEM spring, where did you buy it from?

If you used a universal spring that works maybe better than mine, where did you buy it and what size?

The spring must be there but it is only used to take up the slack in the linkage. You do not want a heavy spring as it will act against the throttle tension.
