identifying 4-speed transmission

I've got what should be an a-body 833 4-speed transmission, and I'm trying to identify it. The number on the tail shaft is 96709, or 967D9. There is also a separate "C". Does anyone know what this is ? Year, gearing, spline, anything ?? I think it came from a 1966, 273 barracuda, but not sure, and what would it match up to as far as engines go ?

I'm not a 4 speed guy but aren't the # on the case that you need to identify the trans?

Thats what I was hoping. 96709 is what is on the tailshaft housing, but the only info pages are talking about counting splines, and grooves, and more inside, not to mention ratio, and plate design. Might be easier to take it to a transmission guy to find out. I'm thinking about replacing my 273, for a 1967, 383, and modifying it in my 67 cuda f/s. I need to know if it's the right tranny for the 383 before I get started.

Yes. But the application is based on the tailshaft extention.

Well, if you can tell me what I have please mr. 4-speed, I would be really greatful ?! I hope with a handle like mr. 4-speed, you have extensive knowledge of the subject ? The number was already posted earlier from the tailshaft.

The handle is for my ability to shift wicked fast, (quick as an automatic, no shit) but I'm fairly certain your transmission fits an a body. Like I'd bet $50 bucks certain

Goooood Morning Y'all.... The hard thing about these is, there is not a " By the numbers Guide" like some of the X-Brands have. To get even close you have to really be savvy with Mopars trans's and have followed them for a long time.
But other than getting into the meat and potato's of the unit to find out what it is, like how long the tail shaft is, gearing, spline size front and rear, and mounting. and looking at the charts, its kind of a crap shoot guess.

For example: Long tail shaft housing... And short tail shaft housing's ???
Short would be for A-body and F-body's
Long's would be for B-body's and E-body's

YearOne has about the best profiled guide. If you decide to take the time to open the trans up and also get some measurements and info....

Hope this helps...... And if you find something better. Please let us know... Keep us posted... Check back often... You never know who is going to pop in here with the rite answer...

Will stay tuned.... :)
