leaky 8 3/4 rear end
 

A couple of things here. I've got an 8 3/4 rear end leaking grease around the drivers side axle bearing. I put new seals in when I put it together, and didn't think I damaged them. Maybe I overfilled it? How much grease should it take? I filled it till grease ran out the filler hole. The drivers side doesn't leak. Also, what's the deal on using the "Green Bearings" do they have seals on them? or do you still need the inner seals? I assume that to use them you remove the race for the tapered rollers and just slide the axle with the greenie pressed on just like you'd do on a Ford or Chev. and no messing with the end play adjustment? Thinking I'll have a go at replacing the seal, and if it still leaks might the greenies cure it? Any and all comments appreciated.

Overfull. About an inch below the filler hole is good. Stick a finger in the hole to the second joint and the oil should just touch your finger tip.

The green bearings will not take the side loads like the OEM I have always been told to fill until it just dribbles out the filler hole while on level ground. There are some reusable gaskets for the pumpkin NEVER use them !!!! I would suggest just replacing the seal again MAKE sure to get quality one with a metal shell !!

Sure you didn't get the wrong seals? Some of the stuff we get now days if sooooo darn cheep, it don't take much to mess it up....

Try to stick with BCA bearing and National Seals... Still made in the USA as far as I know....
