Torque Converter To Flexplate distance

What is a correct distance from torque converter pads to Flexplate?
I have a 727 to 440 setup with a motor plate measures .100".
I can't really measure the distance with tranny bolted up through the little space offered, I would guess a 1/4". My Flexplate is "Gold" colored & has an offset stamped into it with offset going toward the block. I just don't want to trash anything!

Thanks

Let assume we are talking a OEM type setting.......
You would be Correct..... 1/8 - 9/16" depending on the pad that was installed.

Not sure what sent up the red Flag for the question?
Modification my require a different setting.
Also be careful and pay close attention to what length bolts you use to bolt the converter to the flex plate.

I was told with a Motor Plate that I should shim the same thickness as the Motor Plate, between the Flexplate & Torque converter pads. Failure to do so can damage the input shaft &/or the pump in the tranny. Just double checking. The tranny is a Reverse shift pattern with a Transbrake & Griner Valve Body.

That is correct..... Push the converter all the way into the trans... Pull the converter back out 1/8 and shim as necessary.. This will keep the Pump tabs best engaged... If you have not upgraded the trans... You can buy the H.D. parts and the tabs dont shear off as easy... Or you can just update it later next time you freshen it up...
