Transfer case removal

I have a 94 Dakota 4X4 . I have an oil leak in the transfer case. Can the transfer case be removed from the truck without the transmission. I was concerned about the clearance with the crossmember. Is there room to back the transfer off the tranny and drop it down?

Disconnect both driveshafts, drain the fluid and disconnect the shifter linkage along with any wires (may be an indicatorr light switch on the housing somewhere.

The cross member should be mounted to the tranny itself so as long as you have a couple of wrenches (regular and a stubby), you should be able to remove the 6 nuts bolting the t-case to the tranny and then slide it off. The t-case will weight ~75-80 pounds. It helps having a second person under there with you sometimes.
