Transmission Shifter won't go in 1st
Hi,
I got my transmission rebuilt a while ago, all runs great except that I cannot at anytime pull the shifter all the way down to 1st gear? I tried to force it a little bit, but it won't bulge in first gear. I have no idea if this is related to a transmission issue, or if some crap is stuck in the lever somewhere, or if it's misaligned. Although the needle does points correctly to the mode it's in (P, R, N, D etc..). Car is a '72 Dodge Polara. Thank you! |
You should have gotten some type of warranty? 12 month 12,000 miles? I would take it back it could be as easy as shifting linkage out of adjustment or it could be internal to the tranny.

What I would do is disconnect linkage from trans and count the clicks, if it goes into first then have a helper put the drivers lever in first and see how far apart they are, a simple adjustment may be all it needs. Now take the drivers lever back to Park and see if it locks into the parking pawl not allowing the driveshaft to turn. This all may be loose shifting mechanism. Hopefully.

1970 Super Bee Shifter
Looking for an auto trans shifter to mount on the hump of a Super Bee. It was originally a 4 speed manual. Any help would be appreciated

Sorry had to post this here as I cant figure out how to start a new thread

Miles P, disconnect the linkage at the shift lever on the trans. Then make sure the lever goes to 5 distinct positions. On one end is park, other end is 1st gear. If it does go to 5 places, then problem is in the linkage.
