Using 518 4WD as 2WD??
Situation is as follows: Theres a 727 present in my Truck. I want to put an A518/46RH in for the overdrive.
Problem: A518/46RH are ultra rare items here in europe and if they show up on the market, they are either super expensive or electronic versions (both a nogo).
Sometimes a Jeep Grand Cherokee owner parts out his old truck and sells the stuff quite cheap, but the transmissions are almost always 4WD though. I could get one of those and swap the 4WD-OD-unit for a 2WD-OD, but that would add more cost again (i would have to order the new OD unit from the US, which is ridiculously expensive with shipping and import tax).
My thoughts: Since the OD output shaft just sticks to the transfer case shaft which in turn is directly connected to the driveshaft...why not get rid of the the transfer case and put the driveshaft directly to the OD output shaft?
Would there be any serious reason why this shouldnt be possible, apart from the output shaft being different spline number/diameter (that can be solved by using a different yoke) or the driveshaft length not fitting in (which can be solved too rather easily)?
Any suggestions?

I think I understand your question. If you remove the "married" transfer case you'll find that the trans output shaft has no bushing or support for a yoke, it meshes with the case and is supported that way.
If you search 2wd to 4wd conversion more information will come up on many truck forums, then you can see tailshaft and housing swap information.

I did a swap in my 84 van but I had a 2 wheel drive 518.... the original mount had to be swaped I purchased a correct one from the dealer cost me $65 .
I had to locate new mount holes in the frame crossmember everything worked perfect
in you case the proper tail shaft is needed you may be able to work a deal with "pact .com "
and purchas a proper tail shaft/O.D. Case for you needs with a core exchange.
