After market K members
 

Are any of ya'll using one of the aftermarket K members and do you like it? I am thinking of using one on my 73 Challenger.

I don't use or have one. But I only recommend one. Bill Reily's RMS K-member with tubular control arms, coil over springs and rack and pinion steering.

CHRYCO-PSYCHO Is there an artical or something that discusses the bracing and where to apply it?

I put bracing around the steering box mount & left engine mount as this where most of the flex will occur especially with a 512 CI stroker

I triagulated the laft steering box mount by welding a flat bar inside , added suports allaround the K & fixed the facory welding some which missed completely , built on Monday maybe LOL

I plan on running the RMS system front and rear... seen the system on cars and in person and is really clean and from all accounts are reliable and the best bang for your buck plus lighter if i remember right. If its too pricey re-enforce the factory stuff and use some hotckis goodies

I think you need to ask yourself "why do I need one?" You need to remember that when guys like Petty were kickin' a$$ on racetracks in these cars, they used (modified) stock suspension components. Throwing some aftermarket system under the car does not magically guarantee bettter handling.

Sure, there have been many advancements in suspension design, but I still come back to what I have learned from Rick E. Every one of these aftermarket suspension designs eliminates the torsion bars and concentrates the suspension loads on the K member entirely. This places all of the forces on the 4 k member bolts and the frame rails. In stock form, the torsion bar crossmember plays a vital part in spreading out the suspension loads. Some kits use coil overs bolted to the shock mounts! These were NEVER intended to support the weight of the vehicle, only the shock absorbers!
Rick E. responded to a reader in a segment of a Mopar Action article in detail regarding the RMS kit VS a stock setup. Yeah, yeah, yeah... The stock stuff isn't fresh and new. It isn't made of polished aluminum or chrome. It isn't as flashy as the new stuff, but it IS 200,000 mile reliable and it is already included in the car!

I would only use one as it should be.. Tied into a full roll cage ! for support. otherwise
the stock setup will out preform it for street use
