Dana 60 rear drum brake service

I was also planning to service my rear drum brakes.

I'd liked to have my current drums turned if their not already too far gone. I'm not sure if the brake lathe I have access to is big enough for this job. Mostly if it's arbor is long enough since the wheel hubs are "staked" to the drums with the pressed in lugs. Guess I'll find out.

But, I was thinking. Even if I get new drums wouldn't they need to be "machined or centered" to the hubs after they are joined or is it not that critical?

This what i did

I didnt mess with turnin mine . I went & bought 2 new drums. 12 " dia × 2.5 " brakes.. I thk less than 80 apc .Thats for 3/4 ton. Put the hub & drum on the press . pushed out the old studs. Got rid of the old drums didnt even bother . Pressed n new studs like couple bucks a pc . snugged the hub up to the drum . Good to go. I found if your gunna tear into it..I replaced everything. Drums shoes hardware kit wheel cylinder . Inner & outer hub brg and race. New seals. Its worth it while u got it apart. Say to go back n replace a bad brg later pain n the butt. Someone might say different thats what i did a yr ago. Total. Less than 400. Not a problem since. But hey. At least change ur hub seals cuz u dont want any oil or grease from the hub wiping out ur new brakes
