Need a good complete disc brake kit for 8-3/4
I bought a disc brake kit from Summit and it ended up to be a Right Stuff complete kit but both parking brake cables are the same size which will not work because the passenger needs to be longer to reach the driver side equalizer on the frame/body rail.
Called Summit and they recommended a Lokar kit which was close to $200. What a joke, are you kidding me? I know I can probably get one made up but I should not have to. I know I will need to fab up some new hard lines and weld some tabs to the tubes. Does anybody know who sells a real complete kit that does not require outsourcing extra parts? I am looking for a basic rear disc brake kit, nothing fancy like cross drilled/slotted rotors. Not going the full pro-touring, I already have another car that has that covered. Thanks in advance. |
OK, going to make it work with some Dorman brake cables. They have a black sheathing so it will look better anyways.

Good news. The next one we do will be pieced together, the SSBC kit I bought had a Lincoln caliper in the parts description. Didn't like the bolt together mounts so we'll weld on mounts and find common parts to build our own.

I just got a kit for my 8.8 Ford that used Caddy calipers, the parkbreak is the caliper itself, no small drum. I don't know how well it works yet but assembly has got to be easier with aftermarket axles.

Thanks for that link.
Looks to be pretty much the same thing as the "Right Stuff" kit that Summit sells. That part number is SUM-BK1629. They also have the kit that includes the cross drilled rotors but I just wanted something basic that will match the front rotors. Didn't want to open up the can all the way on this project. Kit bolts up real nice using the "Green" bearings. |
Hey Vitamin C. I realize this post is a bit dated however, I bought the same disc brake system for my '70 Charger and therefore have the same issue with the short cable. Which Dorman cable did you buy and, did it work to your satisfaction? Did you need to trim the sheathing and if so, how did that work out? All help is appreciated.
