Wheel Stud Problems - Too Short! Help!
2 Attachment(s)
Working along on my 1934 Dodge project with a Helix Suspension front end. Needless to say, Helix's tech support is useless if and when I ever hear back. I've called them twice, left them messages both times, and have received ZERO call backs.
Posted to their facebook page, only to be told to call (which I did). Then I posted again and they told me to email one of their techs (which I did) and his response to me about what Year / Make / Model car did they base their front studs off of was to "go to summit they should be able to help you". See the attached photo. I have 1/2 - 20 lugs, .516" knurl, and 1.75" long. Ideally I need lugs that are 2.5" long..... I can't find these with the correct knurl ANYWHERE. Thanks! ~Phil |
Do you have a part number and manufacturer for the Studs you have?
|
No, that is part of the problem. The only thing I have on the stud is on the head of it, its stamped "835-"

Is it too large or small. Find some and ream the Axel hole out to fit...
ARP 100-7703 long studs modify to fit !!!!! |
OK, I'm betting that is a Doorman 610-183 wheel stud. They list the specs as 1/2 - 20, .560 knurl, and 1 11/16 under head.
The closest what you asked for that I can find, is a Doorman 610-192. It isn't as long as you asked for. It is only 2 1/32 under head. You could try the Doorman 610-073 which is 2 3/8 under head, but the knurling is longer. Any auto parts store should be able to grab one out of their doorman bin to let you compare them. Or cross reference them to their brand. That is the smallest knurl size they offer on the 1/2 - 20. I would think if it was any stock application doorman would have a stud for it. |
I'm betting Non stock racing wheels. look at Summit ??? Maybe a screw in stud
|
This is bringing back nightmares of putting late model Ram wheels on the '92 truck.
Searched the Dorman catalog to end up with slightly too large of knurl. Had to pull the axles, sanding roll dremel each hole a bit and press in with the hydraulic press. Looking back it really wasn't that big of a deal, the only other option was to tap each hole and install race screw ins at a larger size. That was too much hassle and work. |
So if they list it as having a .560 knurl......... why do I show .516 when I use my gauge? Am I measuring it wrong?

~Phil Personally I would lean more towards going to the 12mm studs and match the fit. As an old parts guy, this kind of thing is fun to me. Let us know what you end up with. Here is the ARP # for 12MM - 1.5 2.5" long with a .509 knurl : ARP #070-100-7708 Jegs and Summit both carry them. |
I'm having this exact problem with helix. Did you ever find studs that worked?
|
I would call Alston or chassis engineering
