1973 Challenger timing issues , ralley tach wiring
 
Hello ,Ihave a 73 340 Ralley car , this was a project car came with a fresh 440 1976 no idea what cam they used , having trouble setting timing , if I set car at 12 degrees car starts hard ,just feels rough , if I take the timing right off the stock mark say 1 inch past car seems to break up when you acccelatrate ,is there an easy way to set the timing , Ihave stock Elc igtion new distributor new wires etc One other problem how to hook up stock tach I saw a post about the wire that runs to the coil and 12 volts to the gauge I'll check Thur thanks Gregg

Sounds like the damper is bad, the outer ring will slip on the center throwing the timing marks off. You need to verify top dead center on number one and see were the mark is on the damper. If it's off it's time for a new one.:)

Thanks ill check it tonight ,motor is rebuilt only 50 miles on it just having trouble setting it up. Thanks

Did this problem just start?
Has it ever run good at all?
Did it run good with the old Ignition and Dist. in it?
12* should be a good start. But try 6* and see if that helps..
Got good Voltage?

as for the tach.... Red to + fused ignition, Black to a good Ground-, White should hook to a parking light, Green to the - side if the coil, That should fix the tach...
