65 monaco - electronic ignition upgrade questions
 

Hi Guys
As this will be my primary driver, and as title suggests, im looking to upgrade to electronic ignition in my 65 383 for ease of tune, reliability, and performance

Anybody have experience with the Jegs complete kits? The price is right but want to make sure its a worthy kit

Love these, been running them on stuff forever, but it is difficult to adjust mechanical advance.

There are some distributors out there now that have the mechanical advance mechanism under the rotor like GM's with bushings to limit amount of advance.

My son got one for his Ford and it is a snap to change springs and limiting bushings with distributor in the engine and not disturb initial timing.

Next distributor I get for any of my Mopars will have this feature.

If you read the instructions it says something like, remove distributor, drive out pin, remove collar, remove breaker plate to get at them.

coronet is right, as all ways. i have found that the advance that it comes with is good enough for most engines. unless its a race engine of you want to fine tune it to the max. if its a daily driver DO get two extra ballast resisters put the in the glove box. on the first no start just swap the one under the hood. hot weather or cold tend to knock them out. all so if the vacuum advance has a hex shape next to the vac fitting the vac curve can be adjusted with a hex wrench. some of the O.E.M. engines in the 70s would ping at mid throttle opening.
