67 fury 3 amp guage smoked then harness got on fire
 

hello again, guys im back again. i just recently changed my starter, alternator, voltage regulator, battery and starter solenoid. there i thought its not charging why?? recently i just saw it w my own eyes amp gauge smoked and my harness wire got on fire. But now i fixed those wires and bypass red and black wire from amp gauge. I got no motor turn and not even starter turns. Yet i checked w the volt on starter its going 12v full from the battery. I'm mad!!! this fury made me furious. Help plz

The black and red wires on the back of the amp gauge need to be connected together to complete the circuit for it to work !!

I put the screw for the black and red wire and put black tape on that sir. When u said tie down means splice it??

Smoking up a harness is never a good thing, because these harnesses are made of thermoplastic insulated wire, which handily melts and fuses together to form shorts within the harness.

Consider pulling the harness out and inspecting it. Yes it's some amount of work. No you can't do it when you are pissed

Second, you probably melted the fuse link, which is from the big stud on the starter relay to the bulkhead connector.

You MUST realize that these cars are getting old. Things deteriorate. Connections, switches, fail.

The fact that is had this "smokin" incident is troubling, because what you saw may NOT be the cause of the problem. For example, if the alternator had a bad diode, possible even if new or rebuilt, OR if the output stud insulator broke and became grounded, you might see the symptoms you describe.

Ammeters have and do failed, and so have THE WIRE END TERMINALS at the ammeter, which can break inside the molded ends.
