Check the connections on the back of the amp gauge, check the charging voltage, check the grounds..
check the voltage thru the ign switch, check the connections at the bulkhead connector(firewall) |

Check your alternator. A quick check is to run the car with the head lights on and off and then repeat, over-riding the alternator circuit for a few seconds. Do this before you get into all the wiring checks can save you A LOT of time and energy. Archer |
These old girls have developed several "favorite" problems
One is voltage drop problems in the ignition harness, part of which is caused by poor connections in the firewall/ bulkhead connector Another is the main battery feed and charging wire connections in the bulkhead connector And yet another is the entire chain of wiring from the headlight switch to the headlights, as well as the lamps themselves. This includes Deteriorating connections in the headlight switch harness connector Bad contacts in the switch itself Poor connections and contacts at the dimmer switch Poor/ deteriorating headlight lamp connectors Poor ground connections out at the headlights The headlights themselves. Older lamps DO get dark and put out less light The charging system: Read the MAD article. Poor connections in the charging circuit An alternator that is too small or charges poorly at low RPM, a known problem of the so called "round back" alternators Please read these excellent articles at "MAD" http://www.madelectrical.com/ http://www.madelectrical.com/electrical-tech.shtml These articles in particular: http://www.madelectrical.com/electri...adlights.shtml http://www.madelectrical.com/electri...p-gauges.shtml |
