Back up lamp switch and Neutral safety switch help

I have a 1966 Plymouth Fury III, and I am pretty sure the neutral safety switch and the back up lamp switch do not work. Is it a single switch with both combined or is it separated? and also where are they/it located?

On a '66 I think they are 2 different switches.Here's a link to a service manual for '66 plym's: http://www.mymopar.com/downloads/ser...ice_Manual.zip

And would the Neutral Safety switch keep me from being able to turn thre car over from the ignition switch? (I can hook a remote starter switch to the starter and it will turn over and start if the key is in on but it will not turn over at the turn of the key.)

Nevermind I tested the neutral safety switch, it works so I think its the ignition switch.

The neutral safety switch gives the ground to the starter relay the the iginition switch gives the positive to the relay to energize it and start the cranking.

To check your starter circuit, get a meter/ lamp and probably a helper or at least a couple of clip leads. You should have this stuff anyhow

See if you can determine the yellow wire going to one of the push-on terminals on the start relay, remove the OPPOSITE wire and clip that relay terminal (not the unhooked wire) to ground. Make absolutely sure the car is in Park and test with the key

If it cranks, you have a NSS/ wiring problem

IF it does NOT crank, test the yellow wire, see if it is getting power with the key in "start."

If the wire is hot, and you are sure you grounded the other relay terminal (good connection) then you have a bad relay

IF the relay clicks, but the starter does not work, you have bad contacts in the relay

I tested it and I will be picking up a new relay tomorrow and I will post again if it worked or not. Thanks for all the help!

Yep, it was the relay. Thank you!

You're welcome. This is a simple circuit once you understand it.
