Power window wiring weirdness
Hi,
I have a '72 Dodge Coronet Custom Wagon with a problem in the power windows. It has 4 power windows that only work when i hotwire the power lead. I have been able to trace the cable for the power to a relay that's attached to the main fuse box (see picture). This relay doesnt give power... I think it's the horn relay? I can hear it switch whenever i press the horn. Also, when i make it switch by putting power on the blue/white lead, the power windows do work.
Does anybody know what's going on here?
I have enclosed a picture of the relay. Its the one hanging below the fuse box with the thick red wire.
regards. Willem

Well, i did some research, and i think this relay is the seatbelt relay as seen in the diagram in this thread
http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/in...?topic=35163.0
this is a diagram of a 73, where mine is a 72. I do have more or less the same wiring i think, but i have a seperate horn relay with a lightbrown/tan wire going to the power windows (number on the relay is 2926433). Does that make any sence?

The Tan Wire should be the (+Hot) Check to see if you got power to that wire?
If the tan wire has power, Then the power window safety interlock switch is turned on or is bad....
Is so, Check the yellow wire and see if you have power?
The window lock switch is between the tan and the yellow.

Ahhhh... Ok... If the tan dose not have power. then the yellow that ties all the switches will not work. I dont recall where the source wire is picking up power.
Trace that wire (Tan) back to the power source.
And then get back to us...

Hi Bob,
The Tan wire's source is (i think) the horn (?) relay in the first picture. I don't know if this is true, but i think the red wire that goes into this relay would be the power source for the Tan wire?
I have been experimenting a bit: When i put a current on the top blue wire of the same relay, i can hear it click. When i leave power on this blue wire, then the windows work. Funny thing is that this blue wire leads to connectors below the seats (/belts)

Hi Bob,
I did as you told me and found a wire with the same colour code (as the one from the relay) coming from the steering column. I traced that all the way back to the fuse box and guess what... between this wire and the wire from the relay i found a fuse
replacing the fuse fixed my problem.... thanks for your help!!!
