Hi,

I have another question about the electrics on my 72 Coronet. I have a windshield wiper motor that will only run on high speed (and pretty slow at that). I have taken the motor apart, cleaned it and put some fresh grease in, but that didnt fix the problem. Do you guys have any idea?

Check the switch...

Hi Bob!

I checked the switch, that works fine. Also hot-wired the connector of the motor. It runs on the green wire. High speed is red? On that one there is no movement.

Hi,

I have an update on my windshield wiper problem; i managed to find another switch similar to the one i have and connected that one. The result of that is that the other switch has the exact same problem as the old one: wipers only work on 1 speed (slow), and dont return to starting point. Another side effect i have noticed though is that, whenever the windshield wiper is running, the passenger side indicator stops working!!!

Im guessing this has something to do with wiring? Any thoughts?

Sounds like a wiring issue in this case.... Gong to need to get a Diagram a trace the wiring. Someone may have taped into it at some point and that might be what is causing all the havic...
Unless it just has the wrong Motor all together?

Hi Bob,

Well i have bought a "new" switch on the internet. The seller told me this new switch came out of a charger from 1973. I have noticed a difference between the switch i have and the one i bought; they basically look the same, but the one from the charger has one more stage in the rotary movement. Also there is a little iron box on the side of it, with three leads going to pins on the connector.

The motor i have is listed in the internet as a 3 speed wiper motor, is this possible? I have added a picture to this post to show you what it looks like. Also pictures of the switches, i couldnt find a better example though (sorry).

Also, i have bypassed the wiring of the motor to the switch (i used the wiring diagram for that). Result is still unchanged: only one speed with my old switch, zero movement with the new one.

Should only have a 2 speed motor.....

Might have one of the speeds burnt out of the motor.
