1974 Cuda dash speaker cover

Does anyone know if there are screw or bolts holding down the cover? thanks pete

I don’t know for certain but I can’t imagine bolts holding down a speaker cover in a stock application. I only remember chrome screw's.

Im waiting for a tool to get lower screws but it seems when i try to remove the upper ones, they just spin. pete

I pretty sure those had J-Nuts.... And it sounds like they could be broken..... You will have to try to get ahold of the wing with a pair of vise-grips to spin them out....

No room to use vice grips from above,

Place a small, bladed screwdriver under the corner of the speaker and pry up while removing the screws.

Will try that tomorrow when my ratchet arrives. thanks

I found the speaker cover was glued down using silicone, the screws were held by the material, after prying off i found the speaker appears to have been installed before a new dash pad was installed. unfortunately the speaker mounting screws or bolts are not visible from above or below. I will cut out the center of the speaker and install the new one from above. Any recommendations of speaker to use, I have a kenwood radio and a phoenix amp . I will tap into the negative side of the front left and positive of the front right to feed new speaker, also add a l pad to control volume. pete

Lots of good name brand speakers out there..... I think it just come down to what you find that will fit in the hole without having to cut the dash up....
if you dont find anything... Check out .... Classic Car Stereos for a replacement speaker.....I think they have direct fit stuff....
