74 Charger bumber migration

Guys -

The 73/74 Chargers came with the 5 mph bumpers and rubber filler molding.
I'd like to move the front and rear bumper in and get rid of the molding.

Besides the std modifying/fabricating the bumper brackets, any way of facilitating the movement?
For example, would just using the bumper brackets from a 71 or 72 do the trick.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Archer

On the Challenger the bumpers were slightly wider this I know and I'm thinking the Chargers are also. I would have to see if the 71 and 2 had different part numbers than the 3 and 4s did. It would be nice if you could change the brackets añd remove the fillers to bring the bumper back to the fender like the earlyer ones.*
good luck*

They are definitely different part numbers, and the 71's / 72s are getting harder to come by.
Thanks,

Guys -

Really, no body has actually done this?

I haven't done it, but plan to. There are two ways to do the back.
https://www.hotrod.com/articles/fix-disco-era-bumpers/ or use 1972 Charger rear brackets. They are shorter and will pull them in to look like the 72's. I bought a set of 72's for mine.
Here is a good read on tucking in the front.

Thanks, those help!
I had seen the Hotrod article before, and just question the need to narrow the bumper.
Since we're basically talking body work, bring the bumpers in as far as practical and the bring the fenders/quarter panels out with filler should yield a similar effect.

You don't have to narrow them. On the two charger forums I frequent, everyone just pulls them in closer. I haven't heard of anyone narrowing them. The 71-72 rear brackets show up on ebay once in a while. You could also place a parts wanted request on some of the Charger forums.

That makes me feel a lot better about it, thanks again!

It's sure worth a try.
