the last year for the 273 was 1967. the 340 came out in 1968 as a much hier performance engine. NHRA refactored the HP of the 340 at least 3 times. since you have a 2 bbl carb you must have a 318. if you have a 1969. as the 360 didnt come out till 1970 or 1971.

Wrong...273 continued 'til '69...4bbl version stopped in '67, as well as the solid cam....hydraulic cam and 2bbl carb. for '68/'69.

yep i mistakenly thought that the last year for the 273 was 67 cause the 340 came out in 68. oops sorry. a close friend bought a new 68 barracuda fastback, 340, 4 speed. VERY fast. this site is a lot better than some.

cause some people think that bigger is ALL WAYS better. a good running engine is a SYSTEM. not a part here and a part there. if you look at ALL the high performance cars by chrysler you will see that the parts on each car is NOT a bunch of misfits. its a system. take a 1965 chrysler 300 L. it is the only 300 with a single carb. thats NOT by accident. same with the rest, a 1966 street hemi, it was not ment to be as fast as a RACE HEMI, so thats what they made. ITS NOT AN ACCIDENT.

Are you kidding!!! The 273 2bbl carb is junk!! Obviously, you've never driven one. The AFB 4 barrel for that year is a vastly superior carb, even on the 2 barrel engines. Any 4bbl carb will wake up a 2 bbl 273, Carter or Holley.
