340-360 flywheel
 

Hello, my name is Spencer and i own a 1974 plymouth duster. I have a 360 wedge and just recently replaced my 727 torqueflight with an a833 4 speed. I was having trouble with the balancing aspect and invested about 200 dollars in a 143 tooth, 11-12'' flywheel. I previously had a 130 tooth 340 flywheel installed that seemed to work fine despite the fact that it was balanced wrong. I got the new 143 tooth flywheel today and tried to install it but i couldn't fit the bellhousing over it. Turns out, i have a 340 bellhousing. So my question is, is there a difference between a 340 and a 360 bellhousing? Is a 360 bellhousing wider? Is my new flywheel just too big? Any advice would be much, much appreciated, thank you

Sounds like you have a bell housing for a 10.5" flywheel....
Read up and check with the Brewer Folks. They can fit you up? I'm pretty sure.... Welcome to the site.... :)

I see, but if i was to get another bellhousing, wouldn't i have to get a larger clutch? And the 340 flywheel is in good shape, could i balance it to work on my 360 wedge? Ive heard about a few diagrams you can use to drill the proper holes, has anyone heard of those or had any luck with them? And thank you RacerHog, I'm looking forward to learning as much as i can and meeting new people who share the same passion.

11" Clutch Was for the truck Bell Housing as far as I remember... All the rest where 10.5"
AS for the Flywheel... Sounds like you just got lucky on the closeness (External) balance Flywheel...
Note: I'm Not the 4-Speed swat expert... So hope Mr.4Speed will jump in with his 2 cents..

The large flywheels were behind small blocks in trucks with the big pig trans not 833's. The bellhousing has a slots machined on the inside for clearance. I fabricated some adapters and put an 833 O.D. trans behind a 318 for our D250, real pain and lots of work, but we did it. Did this mostly because we had new big clutch stuff from a B Body, went carb and wanted to drop the electronic auto trans.

I did my research and decided that the best thing to do would be to sell the 143 tooth flywheel and purchase the summit p4529110. Has anyone ever purchased one of these flywheels before?

I was looking for a diagram for a 360, thank you. I ended up just ordering a stock 360 wedge flywheel with the weight drilled out of it. This time, with the correct number of teeth and the correct size. Engine balance is new to me, I've learned a lot through this fiasco

Yes, we thought we might go that way but the 340 flywheel we were going to drill into using that diagram had a few micro-cracks. I've heard stories of flywheels coming apart and tearing through the bellhousing. I feel like the best thing to do would be to just get a new stock 360 flywheel instead of drilling those holes in an un-sound flywheel

Been done many times over the years with no ill effects.

Maybe if you were building the motor and did a complete balance at that time.:) But it's not for me.

Got the new flywheel in. With the weight taken out of the new flywheel, and the weight on the Harmonic balancer, there's virtually no vibration. Thank you all for your help. I'm still pretty young, i enjoy learning and sharing as much as i can, so I'm glad the community here is so helpful and friendly
