64 Dart broken Cam Sprocket
Hi everyone - new member here. I just picked up a 1964 Dart GT convertible, 273. A few days ago, the car would not start. After some troubleshooting, I found the rotor was not turning so i began to tear it apart and found the can sprocket had broke.
I ordered a new timing chain set and would like to install tomorrow morning. Here is my question. I've done a lot of searching online and would like to know if both sprocket marks should be at 12 o'clock - 12 o'clock or 6 o'clock - 12 o'clock when the rotor is pointing at the number one cylinder? I read contradicting information and would rather not have the engine 180 degrees out after assembling everything although all I would have to do is rotate the distributor instead of disassembling everything. I apologize if the answer is buried in this forum. Thanks in advance!! |

Make sure to check the timing marks / directions as to use the correct marks on the gears.. Compare the old gears to the new ones.. Quite some time ago there were some out there miss marked. Run a compression test after replacing the gears and before starting it.. Make sure there are no bent valves. Lost the chain on a 318 years ago and all the exhaust valves were bent
