just got a 66 dart, got some questions, and i am a newb to mopar
Alright so i bought a 66 dart a few weeks ago
its a 225 6cyl all stock, im planning on driving it like this for the summer while i gather the parts to do what i want to it from everything ive read and everybody ive talked to at car shows and stuff i got a basic idea that a good set up would be a 340 with a 727 and a 8 3/4 rear and of course upgrade brakes and everything else however i have some questions and please tell me your opinions about the best set up 1) is a 340 really any better than a 318 or 360? 2) what will i need to do to the motor to get a little over 400? 3) will a 727 mount up to those small blocks? 4) what cars came with a 727 and/ or a 8 3/4 rear that i could get pulled out from like a salvage yard or something? 5) what cars came with disk brakes all around that will fit on my dart? (im trying to do it on the cheap) 6) what all parts exactly will i need off those cars to fit the brakes on mine? 7) is there a car i could get the power steering and steering collum ect.. out of to fit in my car any answers or opinions or advice would be great thanks |
heres alittle help
1 340 is known to be the best of small blocks other people on here can give you a difiniatve answer on why but yes its better 3 yes 727s mount up to small blocks alittle hard to come by since after 1972 they switched to 904s 5 I dont think any a body came with discs all the way around, disc breaks werent used untill 1974 i think also start looking for parts cars i belive 1964-1966 will work theres like little to no parts being repoped for those cars |
1) The desing of the 340 made it very easy to build power and torque with them.
2) Over 400 HP? Over 400 torque? Over 400ci? 3) Yes, any small block 727 will bolt up to a 340. You will want to get one with a short tailshaft housing though. 4) You'll want to look for an A-body 8.75. Any will work with some cutting and welding, but that would be the closest to a bolt in. 5) you will not be able to find any with disc all around. You might be able to swap in a front kit off of a later car but I am not 100% sure. |
you should go with a 340 they are the best mopar small block around have you thought of maybe a 4 speed in her instead......a 340-4speed is a great combo

73 and newer A-bodies came with discs in the front. It's easiest to just pull the whole K-frame out. But being a 66 dart, its even smaller then a 67+, So im not 100% positive if they are the same K-frame.

63-66 were the compact years. A body Darts started in 67, The K member is much smaller in the 66. If you can find a 70s Aspin or volare, you can adapt the disc to fit with little mods.
