spun a bearing AGAIN! 71demon
so today i go to start my car(1971 Dodge Demon with a 360) to go out for lunch and right as a start it it starts knocking. i had this exact same problem 2 years ago and finally got the engine back in the car a month ago. the guy that did the engine work did it for cheap as i was tight for money at the time which i realize now was a terrible idea. the crank is obviously no good now. so i was just wondering what are my options for new or used cranks and what should i check before putting everything back together so this doesnt happen for a third time.

WHAT has been done to the engine ? the 360 is almost bullet proof Maybe there was some trash left in the engine ?? Was the block and all parts cleaned.. Check the oil pump pickup clearance to pan. Was the replacement crank refinished or just used. Did you check the clearances ? What were you doing last time it was driven ?

bearing crush?

everything was cleaned crank was refinished hope he checked the clearence. the engine isnt done up much .510 cam, pistons not sure but deff not stock, shaved heads higher cmpression, high rise mopar intake manifold everything else is stock except high volume oil pump. and plus i changed oil last week. oil level was fine when i checked too

Maybe check the rod and main bolt torque before disassemble.. DO YOU have a 7 qt aftermarket pan ??? A must if you run a HV oil pump
HV pump will suck a stock pan dry at high RPM's |
Check the oil passage from the left galley down to the mains. They can be reduced in size that's why I always drill them to 9/32", 5/16" on #1.
As strange as it may seem a fella from another forum had the exact thing happen and when he checked he found one was not drilled all the way through to the main saddle. |
I agree.... Crank Kit W/ Bearings and Recheck all alignment holes....:yikes:

maybe you need a bottom oiler? or pin the inserts?
|
It wouldn't hurt to check that the rear lhs oil gallery plug inside by the distributor drive is in place.
