temp gauge help ????
 

looking to install a after market temp gauge and there is no place to install it on my intake. I was wondering if any one had a thought about putting a brass tee on the intake where the heater core line connects just not sure if anyone had a different idea ? there is a hole in the intake for a small probe but the one that came with the gauge is approx 3/8" ips the intake is liken 1/4" thanks guy's :doh:

Stock intake only has the 1/4" pipe thread opening for the stock temp sending unit. You could find a spot near that one and drill a hole and tap it for 3/8" pipe thread opening.

Depending on who makes the gauge, you can get the special adapter that the gauge tube fits into (these are proprietary pieces) down to sometimes 3/8" US pipe thread, which is some help

Also, GM had some (maybe aftermarket) thermostat housings which had an extra fitting boss int he top of the housing. I do not know if it's tall enough to clear the probe or not

Be careful drilling/ retapping a manifold. They can be very thin, and provide little "meat" for threads

This has been a problem that has plagued us Mopar drivers all our lives. Even Edelbrock just could not bring themselves to provide a "standard" boss for the large water temp fitting.

There was a member over at A Bodies Only who claimed to be (or was) an engineer at Autometer. He claims their electric temp gauges are as accurate as any mechanical gauge. Years ago, I got burned BAD by an electric SW gauge.

Isn't/wasn't there a wire sender that fits into the radiator hose (under the clamp)?

The Eddy small block Performer has several 3/8" holes to choose from.

Ya, but "back in the day" that wasn't so, AND the smaller temp gauge mounts were not commonly available in 3/8, either. Most of the traditional mechanical gauges, even SW, only came with 1/2" mounts


And yes, there was a radiator hose mount. This is a piece that is/ was sold in order to tap in some engine heaters, but it looks kinda hokey

I was going to try to hide it at the back of the motor near the heater core so it is less noticeable but just dont think it will get the volume needed ? and if there was a slow leak could go unnoticed by others !!!!!
