valve cover question
 

i just got my engine rebuilt not long ago and i want to know if i need to have air vent on both sides or can i have 2 on one side and one on the other, sorry if im not clear i dont know what there called

You should have a port opening for a PCV valve on the right (passenger side) valve cover connected to manifold vacuum, large port at the base of carb. Left side valve cover there should be a breather, either incorperated in with the oil fill cap or on its own either way these two have to be on opposite valve covers to properly scavage the blow by and reburn it.

Pass side has the PCV to the back of the carb

And the driver side can be open or have a breather. Whatever works.

OK, I'll bite, why the PVC on the passenger side? I've run my PVC valve on the driver's side and the breather on the passenger side, since I started out, and pretty much so did everyone else.

They came from the factory with the PCV on the pass side, and the breather on the driver side

OK, but the crank case is effectively a closed system, and therefore blow-by can be sucked out of either side and the breather can vent from either side, so why does the PVC "have to" be on the pass side?

BTW, you can make a case for the PVC and breather not being on the same side (valve cover).

Frankly, IMHO it just looks better on the driver's side ;)

Seriously, not trying to be a smart@$$, just want to know if there's a reason for doing something a certain way.

They can go on either side, I just like making my stuff look "factory". Makes my ride look more "sleeper" status.

Like my painted Aluminum intake and painted valve covers that have the brackets on them to hold the spark plug wires.

I said it this way because this is the way mine is set up and I'm sure it's OEM. How ever you are right it dont really matter which side is what as long as the breather and PCV are on opposite sides. I'm sure you have alot more experiance on the older mopars than I do but the few big blocks I have seen have been set up the way I described above.

With this stuff, doing something for a certain look, is a perfectly valid reason in my book.

Doubt anybody is going to believe that thing is stock, though ... :D
