Head gasket holes

I am replacing the head gasket in my 1949 Chrysler and i am curious as to why there are 2 holes in the head gasket, when there is no hole on the engine where they lines up. ( bottom of picture )

The head gasket may fit another engine block using the other holes.

Check the head and the block deck to make sure they are flat.....
Are you going to put an adhesive on the gasket before installing it, or dose the gasket MFG call not to use anything?

I like to use Copper Coat Spray....
