Shawn's Chassis

Yes not looking forward to it. I am a licensed Sheetmetal Worker so everyone thinks this should be easy for me. The fussy fitting and notching around all the tubes and trying to make the body easily removable will drive me nuts. Trying to do it all in a confined place will probably cripple me, I expect a slow process.

Ya. Body mounting might just be the easiest part of all that... Bending .040 / .050, Cutting, Trimming, Fitting, Installing Tabs, Cutting and drilling hole and installing Dzus Fasteners,
Fun stuff...
Keep us posted....

Made these tabs from 1 x 1 1/8” drilled 7/16” to accept the free casters Shawn got from his boss. He can move it around to bring the snowmobiles in to work on. I’ll leave them for future use when the car is complete. Nothing significant has been done just brake mount and some little stuff. Received the steering shaft kit from Bear’s which is all chromoly with aluminum bushings. I’ll need to bring the Tig machine home now so I can weld it the 4 link bars, wishbone and anti-roll bar. Shawn has picked up a nice gauge package, steering wheel and adapter. He wants to get the block in soon so I’ll have to hone the copper in the litter bores where I tubed it.
He he got a full exhaust for a Mustang GT 350 or 500 for my car from his boss, he says it’s fancy, I just like that it was cheap. Yesterday I picked up two fiber glass front fenders for my car for $125.00 in good shape to have as spares. I think I said I got my steel fenders chemically dipped and they need a lot of work. Shawn is at work today which is becoming normal. Hard for him to juggle time to make money for the race car and time to build it. I just wish we could get together more to work on it.
CAN'T LOAD PHOTO. I phone won't do it now with forum changes.

Surgery set for November 30th and December 7th. Off work between and one week after the 7th. I should get some work done now any dust or debris in the eye after surgery is really bad.

I was going to say something about the singing, but.
Dan how did you do with tubes moving during welding.

That's been the problem and makes me a tiny bit angry. I wanted to finish weld then move on, you know finish one job at a time. He's had me fitting the seat, shifter and stuff, now we got the steering shaft and u-joints that's next. He says that once we get stuff fitted the finish weld will get everything, he's not wrong but it's still bugging me.
Just uploaded photos now, don't know why. WOW they're big.

Got steering column mounts done today. Can’t tell if pictures loaded doesn’t show them in preview post. I’m disappointed in new format.

Thanks, some of it may look a little clunky or unfinished which will be taken care of when I do final weld.
Thanks with the picture posting, what worked was not stated in the FAQs when I looked for answers.

I tried putting in pictures in a album and struggled.
I'm glad I could stumble my way to helping.

His plan is first engine 318/323, tubed, carb, gas maybe alcohol, 11.5 compression pistons we have and 500 hp. The next will be 318/323, filled, tubed, 4 bolt, girdle, low compression pistons we have, alcohol for sure, supercharger, and a diaper, not sure if we'll build an electronic MPFI or old school mechanical, he's leaning toward mechanical right now.
Plan to start soft 8/71 20-25% underdriven and then increase the boost. To put a number on it I guess start at 600 go up and then see how much it takes to split a block.
This idea all goes back to early '70's when Pro Comp started and one year someone hit it big with Blown Alcohol SBC beating the big cubic inch engines.
If one comes along and we have the funds then an aftermarket block will be the foundation, but for now it's "Go Fast, Take Chances".

Haven't melted in along time, eye surgery then working on the snowmobiles. Going on call this week so maybe some work but then we go away for a week snowmobiling. It will be awhile before we see body.

Mounted radiator and fan and have body just sitting on chassis. It’s a 1966 Mustang 289 rad, will buy a nice aluminum one that should bolt right in when we can afford one.
