1973 d300 w/318 looking for more towing power

I am looking for more towing power out of my 73 d300. Motor has about 30,000 miles on PO rebuild. Build was stock best I can tell. Has a 4bbl and DUI distributor.

Truck runs great but struggles at times. Dont really want to swap motors so thinking about a cam and intake swap. Any recommendations? Worth the effort or should I just bite the bullet and start looking for more displacement?

1973 D300, 318, 4speed, dually, flatbed.

Welcome. I used a Comp Cams XE 252 H with recommended springs in my 318 D 200 with great results. Good break away power, loads of torque with surprising top end.

great advice. cam that puppy! and head work, although pricey, will really wake that engine up. power is there, it's just closed off.
