1975 d200 issues

Okay so I have a 1975 dodge d200 camper special with a 360. I have owned it for about 2 months now and never had issues until recently. It will randomly stall and sometimes be hard to start again. I am looking for possible answers and solutions. Thanks for all replies

I agree, check the fuel system over.

Coronet 500 07-19-2016 03:18 PM

I'd be taking the fuel pump and running it in a bucket to do a timed volume test. Making sure to disable the ignition system before cranking. If it showed proper volume as per spec then the carb would be coming off for a look see and rebuild.

Now it could be something else but based on age and RV limited use sitting with an older gas tank, with your described symptoms, this is the place I would start.

Oh yes, and Welcome to the site!

I would look for an air leak at the fuel tank ! Replace the rubber hoses !! Next time it happens check for spark ...

mpask 07-20-2016 07:24 PM

Update! So I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filters and it still does it. Seems to only happen when the engine gets hot. Plus it has been pretty hot where I live the past couple days so that isn't helping. Also i will add that it has a edelbrock 4 barrel carburetor and intake. Carb is a 1406 I am going to replace the rubber part of the fuel line tomorrow a wrap them in heat wrap as the lines were getting quite hot

mpask 07-21-2016 03:26 PM

Would it be the voltage regulator causing this problem or the distributor

Coronet 500 07-21-2016 05:21 PM

Did you confirm the fuel pump was bad before replacing? If you didn't it could still be a restricted fuel pick up in the tank. A proper and full diagnosis should be done before changing parts so you know that you have corrected the problem.

mpask 07-21-2016 05:36 PM

No I didn't confirm that but this only happens if I drive the truck for about 20 minutes and once I let if sit a while it will be fine again for another 10-20 minutes then same thing and right before it stalls there's a big backfire. The carburetor gets hot when the motor is running could this maybe be the issue. Like you can't even touch it it's that hot

Vapor lock

I would look into vapor lock.

TVLynn 08-02-2016 04:09 PM

Carb boiling over ? Try a carb spacer/insulator!

mpask 08-02-2016 04:37 PM

Yeah put a spacer 2" spacer in and rebuilt the carb. Still does it but not all the time. I'm going to go through all the wiring and look for a possible cause

mpask 08-06-2016 05:30 PM

So now I have noticed a some white ish smoke coming from his back of the engine when it's been running for a while

RacerHog 08-07-2016 07:20 AM

That dont sound good? What is it?

mpask 08-07-2016 07:38 AM

Not sure what it is. It's not a lot of smoke it's only noticeable when you open the hood. Don't think it's an manifold leak since I recently changed the gaskets but maybe could it possibly be the head gasket?

RacerHog 08-07-2016 07:42 AM

Maybe..... Or just a valve cover seeping a little and dripping on the exhaust manifold or pipe????? Check it out.... keep us posted.... :)

mpask 08-07-2016 07:44 AM

Would that cause my issues I've been having?

RacerHog 08-07-2016 09:25 AM

Head gasket would.... But not the stalling and hard start..

mpask 08-07-2016 03:35 PM

So it did it again today after not much driving and I took a plug out and checked for spark and there was no spark. But if it sits for a bit you can drive it a little more. Like a couple blocks hen same thing. Any suggestions. Maybe the distributor rotor and cap or the ignition coil

RacerHog 08-07-2016 05:23 PM

sounds like it might be the ecu/module ??????

mpask 08-10-2016 05:23 PM

Thanks everyone for the replies I have finally gotten it fixed turned out to be the ignition control module

Iowan 08-11-2016 06:01 AM

Home run Bob!

RacerHog 08-11-2016 07:39 AM

RacerHog 08-11-2016 02:42 PM

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....lol

mpask 09-18-2016 12:15 PM

what would cause this part to keep goin bad. I have to change it again as the problem is happening again

Iowan 09-18-2016 12:40 PM

what are you putting in for parts, mopar, napa etc.?

RacerHog 09-18-2016 05:46 PM

Check or change the Dist. Pick-Up.... Also make sure you are using the write ignition coil..

mpask 09-18-2016 08:13 PM

I'm not sure on he brand of it. would a subwoofer cause this problem

RacerHog 09-19-2016 06:20 PM

Not that I'm aware of...
