1977 W400 PW brake lines ?
Hello, new member here with my first post
I recently bought a 1977 Dodge Power wagon W400. Overall, the truck is in good shape for its age. I have been doing minor repairs and replacements with a goal to get the truck ready for PA inspection. The parking / emergency brake was mostly missing but is now complete and working. This was a small fire truck and also had a hydraulic parking brake using the rear brake circuit. I wanted to replace all the hard and flexible brake lines and get rid of the extra parking brake for now. I'm working with a local NAPA parts store to get as much of the parts as I can. Anyway, I cut and removed the lines from the master cylinder to a manifold block with the brake pressure switch. The block is mounted directly below the master cylinder on the frame. There is a guide in between to keep the two hard lines coming from the master cylinder away from the steering shaft and exhaust manifold. I forgot to mark the two lines so I'm no longer sure which line from the master goes to the back and front ? Back port on MC go to back brakes and front go to front or visa versa. I tried a search on here but didn't get any hits. Don't have any photos on this computer but will post photos if needed. Thanks for any help Andy |
Welcome to the site..... Sounds like a fun and awesome project.....
Answer to your question: The larger reservoir of the master cylinder is usually the front part of the braking system. Good Luck with the project... Keep us posted.... Cheers |
My experience is, the front of the master to the rear and rear of the master to the front. I just double checked on mine and it's the way. I agree with racerhog

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. I crossed the lines up at the master cylinder as I had them the wrong way around.

Hope that gets you fixed up.... :)
