318 wake up or swap larger?
 

Hello all, im day dreaming about a little more power. I have a 1975 d100 2wd with 318 and 727 auto. The truck will be used for general running around and to haul a double snowmobile trailer once and a while. Not too concerned about milage. More info.....3.23 rear end, 31" tires on it(not my choice came with them) 2 barrel carb. I do want it as reliable as possible. Money is of course a consideration. Would like to stay under 1500 if i can. Thanks in advance

Options are 4 barrel intake manifold and carb, cam lifters and springs, recurve distributor then think about exhaust.

Look for a used 360 LA and try not get hosed.

My past truck had 318 with above improvements 3.91 gear changed to 3.55 and did what your wanting beautifully. You can get 350-400 ft/lbs torque from these engines if you plan it properly.

Yeah! Pretty much the magic lies in the heads of these puppies. By 1975 the engines were pretty anemic. If you caaaaaaaaan, I’d find a ‘68 318 and build it mildly. Port the heads, bigger valves, nice RV type cam, 600 cfm carb, elec fan, et cetera. In ‘68 the engines were advertised at 230 horse, so it’s very easy to get another 50 out of them.

But I bet you’d be fine just doing head work on the one you have, if you wanted to. :) These little mills have decent potential.
