78 dodge w150 steering column

I have a lot of slop in my steering. I am having a hard time locating a new steering column. Will a 2wd column work. Are the columns year specific.

Hello

Are you sure it's the column and not the u-joint, rag joint or steering gear? What condition is the rest of the front-end in?

I have no idea about the capability between 2wd and 4wd parts but, I may know where you can get the parts you need.

I did business with Joe Leonard over at Mopar Truck Parts when I was converting my truck over to power steering and was having trouble locating the parts needed.

If it turns out your steering gear is at fault, I've heard it's best to have it rebuilt rather than replacing it with a reman unit. And the place I've heard to have it done is called RedHead Steering Gears but, I've yet to do business with them.

I hope you find this helpful.

Joe is a good guy, he lives about 20 minutes from me. Id get rid of the stock steering shaft and replace it with a Borgeson shaft. The factory steering joints are weak and wear pretty bad, which can lead to a nasty break. The Borgeson is cheap insurance at $135 and 20min for install you won't regret it.
